Common Myths That Could Hinder Your Baby’s Healthy Brain Development

Our genes determine 100% how our brains develop and there is no way to change that.

The truth: According to MRA research, it has been shown that the genes only contribute 50% on a child’s brain development. Other important factors that determine the growth and development of the brain are the baby’s experience and environment.

As parents, our daily thoughts, speech and actions have no impact on our baby’s brain development at all.

The truth: The early experience for every baby is very crucial as this is the phase where the brain is experiencing incredible growth. Hence, the stimulation (such as parents’ speech and action) will set up the experiences that your baby’s brain will use to wire itself for learning later.

It is unnecessary to spend too much time and money to learn about brain development, as that will be taught when my child enters formal education as formal education will ensure that they learn well.

The truth: Contrary to what many parents may think, every child should be “school-ready” by the time he/she enters formal education, i.e. to have a fit, healthy, active and nurtured brain that is ready to learn. And this can be easily nurtured from the moment your baby is born.

Flash cards help to develop my child’s brain fitness.

The truth: Flash cards were developed in the late 1980’s before the advent of the CAT/MRI scans. Recent neuro-research has shown that there is a lack of science behind the method.
